From the artist:
“I was born in Connecticut and, after completing my degree at the University of Connecticut, I travelled extensively throughout the United States and lived in 12 different states. As my first career advanced, I became increasingly committed to photography. I now live in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York, where I photograph often. But I still travel throughout the U.S. frequently and into Canada. I have been deeply interested in photography for over 30 years and now photograph in 35 mm digital format. I have taken classes and workshops with well-known photographers George Lepp, John Shaw, Weldon Lee and B. Moose Peterson.
While my subjects are drawn from nature and focus on landscapes, structures and flowers, I also find close-up photography to be exciting. For several years, I have been especially drawn to infrared digital photography. I find that its unusual light spectrum challenges human perceptions, and it has opened fresh creative channels for my work.
My work was selected for the “New Genre” award in the 2012 “Cooperstown National Show.” I won the 2018 Grand Prize in the “Adirondack Life Photography Contest,” … in past winning 1st Place Color Photograph in 2008, 2nd Place Alternative Process in 2009 (and another for Honorable Mention) and an Honorable Mention in 2010. One of my photographs was selected as “The Best of Nikonians” in their on-line contest for May 2010, leading to an article about infrared photography for their on-line magazine. I have had photographs in the 2011, 2013 and 2014 “Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region” Exhibitions at the Albany Institute of History & Art and at the Hyde Museum. I have frequently had photographs selected with winning awards for the annual “Cooperstown Art Association’s Regional & National Juried Exhibitions.” In 2009 and 2017, my photographs won the 2nd Place awards at the “Adirondack Theme Biennial Photography Exhibition” at the VIEW in Old Forge, NY. In 2016, I won a 3rd place award at View Arts Center in the “Annual Central Adirondack Regional Exhibition.” I won 2nd Place in the Remington Art Museum 2015, 2016 & 2017 Juried Members’ Show in Ogdensburg, NY.
My photographs have been presented in solo shows at the Arkell Museum in Canajoharie, NY; the Clifton Park/Halfmoon Public Library in Clifton Park, NY; the (former) Feast Gallery in Saratoga Springs, NY; the bjsartworks Gallery in Glens Falls, NY; the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts in Blue Mountain Lake, NY and in the Northville Public Library in Northville, NY. I had solos shows in Hadley-Luzerne, Glens Falls, Albany, Blue Mountain Lake, Troy and Clifton Park, NY. I just shared a 3-person show as part of the Upstate Artists Invitational at The Laffer Gallery.
I have published three books. The most recent is a collection of images from Banff and Jasper National Parks called “Reflections of the Northern Rockies.” My second book is called “Paths… Over Roots & Rocks.” It contains 38 images and greatly expands my work on paths. The first book “Paths in Life” contains 18 infrared images along with the definitions and narratives for each “Path” photograph. Each “Path” image reflects a human value. This series of images was gathered as I traveled throughout the U.S.”
