More often than not, the less of something we have, the more beautiful it can appear and the more it’s appreciated. The serene and calming light of Autumn’s golden hour is no exception. As the days become shorter and the shadows get longer, we welcome the light every morning with a strong inhale and send it past the horizon every evening with a sigh: The Power of Light, presented by The Laffer Gallery.
Takeyce Walter is truly inspired by the landscape. This is ever apparent when standing before any of her paintings. Walter’s work in oil and pastel present the landscape of the Northeast in all its glory. There is a great sense of familiarity, calm, and peacefulness in each piece. The paintings feature the rural landscape of upstate New York, the Adirondacks, Cape Cod, and Vermont.
Anne Diggory has worked out of her studio in Saratoga Springs, New York, for almost 40 years. In Kate Edward’s own words, “I spent most of my childhood moving back and forth across the United States. I can still remember the endless vistas from days of car travel. The beauty of the varied landscapes left a real impression on me. I gain inspiration from the change in season and the light of any given minute of the day. To paint landscapes I feel more connected to the world, and endless observation constantly informs my work. I tend to paint what is around me and as I live in an agricultural landscape that is what I paint.”
In Catherine Minnery’s own words: “I am constantly inspired by the natural world;the sunrises and sunsets, the ordinary upstate NY landscape that I see on a daily basis. Of course, I also am deeply moved by the majestic: the rivers and streams and mountains that are part of this landscape. I could go on and on about light and shadow, the underlying abstract and spiritual components of any subject matter (other locales, interiors, still lifes or some combination) but I create art because I have a need to make visual the excitement I felt when I first looked at (or thought about) the subject at hand, searching for the unseen, not just the surface reality.”
