DESCRIPTION:

Schuylerville, NY – May 30, 2025 – The Laffer Gallery is thrilled to present Frequencies, a new exhibit featuring two acclaimed contemporary artists, Leslie Parke and Yeachin Tsai. Frequencies will run from June 14 through July 27, 2025, explores the intersection of sensory experience, perception, and the vibrational nature of reality. The exhibition invites visitors to step beyond traditional forms of visual art and experience a shift in consciousness.

An opening reception will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Laffer Gallery, located at 96 Broad Street, Schuylerville, NY 12871. Both artists will be present, providing an opportunity to engage with their work and insights.

Leslie Parke: Vibrational Reality
Leslie Parke’s work offers a visceral exploration of perception, presence, and consciousness. Her artist’s statement speaks to a life-changing experience during a jazz concert by Nick Hetko that redefined her understanding of both art and existence. Parke writes, “I used to think of my paintings as objects — compositions, surfaces, gestures. But then something happened that redefined not only what I create, but why I create it.”

Through this transformative moment of heightened awareness, Parke began to view her paintings not as representational or abstract works, but as vibrational, experiential fields. She aims to invite the viewer into a state of expanded presence, evoking a deep sense of connection, weightlessness, and unity. Her paintings are portals, designed to be felt, not just seen.

Parke’s exploration of sensory experience is informed by both Buddhist philosophy, where the dissolution of opposites creates unity, and by the collapse of matter and force in physics — two realms that converge in the artist’s immersive canvases.

Yeachin Tsai: Rhythmic Tension and Mindful Energy
Yeachin Tsai’s work bridges the meditative and the dynamic. Known for her rhythmic forms and decisive brushstrokes, Tsai’s work embodies the infinite time and space dynamics of Chinese calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting. Her approach combines layers of ink, acrylic, and oil on diverse materials including paper, canvas, wood, and fabric.

Drawing on her roots in Chinese visual tradition, Tsai generates tension and harmony within the intimate scale of her smaller paintings, which are alive with colossal internal energy. Her large-scale works use energetic, big brushstrokes to engage the viewer, creating an immersive experience of joyful, liberating mark-making.

Tsai’s art is both calming and invigorating, inviting the viewer to slow down, breathe, and experience the profound beauty and mindfulness in each moment. Her paintings encourage a reflective journey — one that resonates on an emotional and energetic level, bringing the viewer closer to a state of mindfulness.

A Shared Vision: The Language of Frequencies
Both artists share a common vision of art that transcends the visual and enters the realm of experience. In Frequencies, the work on display invites viewers to explore how art can serve as a bridge to a different state of awareness. The exhibition highlights the unique ways in which each artist uses vibrational elements — whether through color, form, or brushstroke — to evoke heightened perception, inner peace, and personal transformation.

“Frequencies is about more than just looking at art,” said gallery director Erik Laffer. “It’s about being in the art — feeling it, experiencing it as a shift in perception. Both Parke and Tsai are masters at pulling the viewer into a state of presence that transcends the boundaries of the canvas.”
