Ronn T Mattia
Ronn Mattia has been captivating audiences with his sculptural works in galleries across the United States since the early 2000s. His pieces have found homes from New Hampshire to Florida to Arizona, showcasing his unique artistic vision and technical prowess.
Originally hailing from Staten Island, NY, Ronn now resides in Glens Falls, NY with his wife, Stephanie. His journey in art began at the State University of New York in Cortland, where he graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, focusing on sculpture and design. This formal training laid the foundation for a career marked by continual growth and exploration.
Ronn’s work is deeply inspired by the myth of the Phoenix, a bird that symbolizes rebirth and renewal. He draws parallels between the Phoenix’s cyclical resurrection and the human experience, exploring themes of transformation and resurgence in his sculptures.
His sculptures are a testament to the interplay between strength and fragility, drawing inspiration from nature’s resilience and delicate beauty. This duality is evident in his choice of materials: the robust, industrial feel of discarded steel contrasted with the delicate, ethereal quality of glass. This combination creates a powerful narrative about nature’s capacity for renewal and the potential for rebirth from decline.
Ronn’s early work with glass provided a springboard into his current explorations, where he masterfully merges glass with steel. Each piece is a dynamic conversation between the two mediums, highlighting the contrasts and harmonies between them. The recycled steel, repurposed from its industrial origins, is given new life and purpose, much like the Phoenix rising from the ashes. The glass elements breathe vitality and energy into the rigid structures, symbolizing the balance of power and vulnerability inherent in nature.
